Our {Year of Dates}

Wednesday, November 2, 2016

Robb and I just wrapped up our "Year of Dates" in October, which was a gift I gave Robb last year for our 10 year anniversary. I had planned 12 unique dates, 1 every month for a year.
I've talked a little about this on the blog before, here and there, but wanted to make a post dedicated to our "Year of Dates" for the sake of memory keeping.

It was such a great year, we really enjoyed our special time together, trying new things, ordinary things, eating yummy food (you'll see that as a common theme!) and making many great memories!

November:

Not the most original date night, but we were really wanting to see the latest "Hunger Games" movie, so dinner at The Lynx, a restaurant we've never been to before, and a movie at The Regent is what we did! Nothing wrong with a classic 'dinner and a movie' date!

December:

We took and pasta cooking class at The Epicurean, and had dinner at Red Lobster.

January:

We went to a shooting range, which was a first for us both, and ordered a 'fancy' pizza for dinner at BC Pizza.  This ranks up there as one of our favorite dates!

February:

We had a fondue date night in; with shrimp, chicken and steak,3 different dipping sauces, jalapeno poppers, crusty bread and oil, with wine and chocolate covered strawberries and gelato for dessert, and we watched "Old Fashioned" a movie about love, fitting for February!

March:

"Love, Laugh and Be Married" event at the Trestle Stop, with dinner, and really good cake :)

April:

Lunch at Olive Garden, and an hour long couples massage at Design 1, perfect timing to soothe our sore muscles after doing a strength training workout together that morning.

May:
Game night in with "fancy pizza" and chicken wings. And of course dessert, lemon bars we made earlier that day :)

June:

We did a progressive dinner downtown Holland; starting with appetizers at The Curragh, dinner at Big E's Sports Grill, some strolling through the shops, and wrapping up with a sugar high courtesy of Kilwin's for fudge, and JP's for chai lattes/hot chocolate! Another fave!

July:

Dinner at Itty Bitty Bar, another place we've never tried, and are so glad we finally did! And watched the rodeo at the Ottawa Fairgrounds, another first for us!

August:

We had a day date starting off with breakfast at deBoer Bakkerji (it's so sad we've never been there before either, we've been missing out!) then headed to Mt. Pisgah to climb the steps, and hike the trails. After that, we put the kayaks in Lake Mac and exhausted our arm muscles rowing to the channel, we even swapped kayaks in the middle of the lake, which was quite comical! I packed us a picnic lunch which we ate on the beach. We spent the afternoon relaxing on the beach, walking the pier, reading, snoozing and playing frisbee until it started to drizzle, then we packed up to head to Goodwill to do some thrift shopping until dinner.
We wrapped up our day with dinner at Hog Wild BBQ.

September:

We went golfing, walked around at the Peddlers Market downtown Zeeland, and ate dinner at Public.

October:

We had dinner at Bunker Hill, and then went on a haunted hay ride where we shot zombies with paintball guns, and walked through the "wicked woods". So fun and scary! All the screaming left me craving something sweet, so we stopped at a gas station on the way home that had this awesome "make your own milkshake" machine,  which I've never seen before, have I been living under a rock?

And that's a wrap!

Being intentional about spending quality time together is so important, and we are so glad we did this. It took a lot of planning, and lining up a lot of childcare, but so so worth it!
A huge thanks to our parents, and Aunt Lisa who helped us out with childcare! We couldn't have done this without you!

How fun! I'm just sitting here amazed at the snow in November and the hats in October. I feel like we live in different worlds! (Central FL here)
