Have you ever been angry with God?

Sunday, October 3, 2010

Our pastor asked our congregation this question in church this morning. As I scanned the sanctuary I saw many members of our church family that I assumed would have had the same answer as I. Yes, I have been angry with God. Have you?

Maybe its because you lost a child, or suffered a painful illness, lost a spouse or your job. Maybe you're struggling with family issues or financial difficulties. I think in one way or another we have all been there. Even people in the Bible were mad at God; Jonah, David, Job...we are all human. The important thing is that we don't stay angry with God. The bible tells us in Psalms 10 verse 14 that God cares about our needs and understands our hurt.

We are his children and he loves us and wants us to trust in Him even when times are tough. He will see us through.

The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness" (Jeremiah 31:3).

In my own life I have seen God's love for me even more during those times of grief and anger towards him. He will "never leave you nor forsake you". (Hebrews 13:5)

Happy Sunday Friends!

Hi, Katie! Your site is very lovely, I love how it's decorated. And Grayden is just adorable!! I'm so sorry about the loss of your first son. That must be terrible for you, but luckily Grayden can fill your heart in his own unique way.
Yes, I have been angry with God, too. When my mom died in 2008, I was very upset with him that whole year. After grief counseling, I slowly am recovering and am no longer upset with him. I realize we all have our time on this Earth, and it's all a different time from others. That's hard to swallow, but you have to do it to move on.
Where/how did you get the signature decoration? That is soooo cute to sign your posts like that. I'd like something like that!
You have a good Sunday, too!

Hi, I found your blog from a friend. Your post today really caught my eye. I lost my dad in a car accident 11 years ago, when I was 17. Today would've been his 52nd birthday. Yes, I was angry with God when it happened. :( Our family was ripped apart, and it seemed like God should've protected us. In reality, it was that horrible tragedy that brought me into a relationship with Him. I am still angry and sad that I have all these years left without a dad, but I'm not angry at God. It is He who has gotten me through these difficult times.

Katie,

Love this post! Like you, my grief walk was made easier by knowing his plans for me...plans to prosper me and not to harm me. I will say that I did not always understand the "why's" but would continue to pray that he direct my steps.

Have a wonderful week and kiss the little mans sweet cheeks for us all :)

Oh, yeah. I've been angry alright.

It look me months to realize that those feelings were okay...and I'm so glad that I did. It propelled me into a truth-seeking quest that peeled back all the layers of my Christianity and got me to the heart of my faith - Christ.

Yes, I have too. I remember one night screaming at God in my bathroom shortly after my son died. My husband thought I was going nuts but I think it really made a difference in my relationship with God. Like Andrea said sometimes we don't understand the why's. But I can say that seven years and two precious girls later, I wouldn't change a thing.
