Freezer Meal Cooking Party!

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

Its been about a year and a half since I hosted my first freezer meal cooking party with 5 of my girlfriends! It went so well that we’ve been having them every couple of months ever since! I think we’ve done it 7 times now.

We all set a date that works for everyone (usually a Friday night). Each girl plans a meal and brings enough ingredients/supplies for each girl to make her own pan of that meal to be frozen and enjoyed at a later date. So with 6 of us we each take home 6 different meals! (I think 6 is a great number, its enough meals to keep you busy for awhile but not too long and its nice having an even number for halving ingredients or something. Like a lot of times we’ll buy a large bag of cheese or something and split it between two people instead of buying 2 smaller bags, saves money!)

Its been so much fun being able to try new recipes and be able to pull a dish out of the freezer at any given time! So handy!

We always have so much fun doing it and it usually ends up being a pretty late night, we all like to chat! This past Friday we had our most recent party and it lasted until after 2am!

I would love to know a few of your recipe's. I have some freezer cooking cookbooks, but the problem is I don't always know how to freeze my tried and true favorite recipe's. How do you know what freezes well and what doesn't? And also, where do you guys buy your aluminum pans? I have gotten some at Gordon Food Service, but they are kind of expensive there I think. How do you handle a picky eater in the group? I would love to do this, but I am SO picky and so is my daughter that I don't think I would eat hardly any of the meals people bring! :(

Great idea, but not sure how it works. Do you cook all the meals that night? Does each person just make their dish, but enough for all of you or do you each make the 6 different dishes?

@ kelly luckily we don't have too picky of eaters, a lot of times we have optional things that some choose not to add, like onions or muchroom, etc! dollar tree has pans 2/$1! thats where i get mine!

@ ally, we just assemble the meals together and freeze them. we each make our own of every meal. i try to let mine thaw overnight and cook it before meal time. hope that answers your question.
