I'm thinking I would do March 1st.

A good friend of mines son was born on leap day and they celebrate on feb. 28th so that it is at least the same month but I think that I would do it on March 1st because technically that would be the "correct" day.

That picture is beautiful!

Oh Katie,

You are asking a question I have had on my heart about Brenham for such a long time but afraid to mention. I am thinking maybe do both days as he is so special to have picked leap year. Follow your heart sweetie. It will lead you through.

Love and Hugs, Laurie

I'm delurking (after months of quiet admiration) to say that I think Brenham's birthday should be celebrated on BOTH days. TWO special days for ONE special boy. Why pick one day when you have the perfect excuse to honor Brenham on two days? One day could be reserved for a quiet, family day to reflect on your son. The next could be party for family and friends to honor Brenham. Warm wishes for whatever day you choose but I'm still sticking with BOTH days.

Both!! Someone so special deserves two days of celebration! I have enjoyed reading your blog everyday!

My birthday is on Leap year, as well as my aunts, and we have always celebrated on the 28th. That was the same as two others in my grade who had Leap year birthdays as well! I like to say only extra special people are born on Leap year!:)

Hi Katie...
My son was actually born on Leap Year 2004...
It breaks my heart to think that while I was celebrating my son's "real" birthday last year, you were grieving for yours...and I am so sorry for that.
As far as when to celebrate...I do both days!! I want to do it the 28th because he was born in Feb., but technically his "birth-day" was the 1st! Now that my son is almost 5 years old(well, technically 1 year old)...he tells people his real birthday is Feb. 29 but his "pretend" birthday is Feb.28.! He got the calendar out the other day and was looking for 2-9 on the calendar in Feb. and he goes,"mom, there is no 29 on here!" Ahh, broke my heart! My husband says it is my issue and I need to get over it! haha!
Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as this day approaches...

I love my birthday so much, if I was born on a leap year I would celebrate BOTH days :).

I think both days sounds great but if you had to pick only one, I'd say Feb 28 because it's still February. Does that make sense? Bless you both as you anticipate this first birthday of your sweet boy.

I am going to suggest that on the 28th you celebrate him and his birth with you and on the 1st you celebrate his new life with Jesus. They are both cause to celebrate!

I hope you find a day that works for you. I am so sorry he can't be in your arms that day but I believe he is with you.

Take care

I say March 1st because, technically, Brenham was born the day after Feb 28th. Regardless of the number, the day after would be his actual day.

Katie...I say both days!!! :) At first I was thinking the 28th because I love my birthday but if you could celebrate it for two days...so I agree...Brenham is a very special little boy that deserves two days!!!

I'm voting for both. ... better yet.. the whole week.

February.

February is the best month ever.

I'm only saying that cause my birthday is on the 19th.

I agree with the majority...BOTH days! I liked the idea from Amber, That's Me! about making the 28th a celebration of his birth with you and on the 1st you can celebrate his new life with Jesus.

Not to get technical - but when does the Secretary of State let Leap Year folks get their license???

Both days! A special boy deserves a special long birthday!

What a wonderful idea people have to celebrate both. I say both...one for his birth and one for his crossing over to be with God.

I just have to say how fitting that he was born on a leap year...it makes him all the more special...if that is even possible!

Thinking about you as the day draws near.

March 1st, because it's the day after Feb 28th... if that makes any sense.

This might not be do-able, but I think I'd have a celebration from 11:00pm on the 28th to, like 1:00am on the 1st. That way, you're celebrating his birthday over midnight and you recognize the specialness of the moment between both of those days.

WOW...this is a hard one...I thought about giving some great advise, but you will do what your heart believes is right...You know that you remember and celebrate him in your heart EVERYDAY...just hoping that God will give you the strength to be able to honor his role in your life as a celebration...hard to do, I know...when you miss him so much. We always make a special birthday cake, (depending on the weather) we write a special note and send it up in a balloon...gets me everytime we do it. Silly...I always think, maybe...he gets it.
No matter what you do/day you pick...you are a great Mommie...
Praying for you...Nichelle

I looked on the calendar, and it's Saturday and Sunday. Why don't you do something really special that weekend? A trip somewhere maybe? Then you can spend both days celebrating his birthday. God bless you- you are so strong and I can't tell you how inspiring you are to me. Thank you for sharing your story with us. Your faith in the Lord encourages me to grow closer to Him as well.

I had a friend in school that celebrated his on the 28th.

Someone said a few posts up that you should celebrate his birth on the 28th and his life in heaven on the 1st!!

I think I would celebrate it in February to keep it in the same month. My son is February 28th and he'd love to share with someone so special! I like the idea of both days too. I've followed your blog a long time, Brenham has a wonderful legacy!

I think that Brenham's Birthday should be celebrated on both days! This way you can honor Brenham on two days because everyone knows how special he is to his Mom and Dad.

TOTALLY DO BOTH!

I hope it is a pleasant and peaceful day for your family.

I've heard people using either day. If I had the decision I'd choose Feb. 28 just because it is probably easier to identify with the month, then again March 1st... well you know what I'm gonna say.

Just enjoy the day that you choose, and do what feels right. Don't let a neighbor or family member sway you either way. That's our job in Blogland. :)

I can not wait to find out how you celebrate little Brenham's special day.
