"Hello, Poison Control Center, this is Helen"

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

that's what I heard on the other end of the phone last tuesday morning!

I had just gotten Grayden ready for the day, diaper changed, new outfit on, hair combed and his rosy red cheeks Vaselined and then it was my turn to get ready. So I put gray in the living room to play so I could go get ready. A few minutes later I realized he was being very quiet in there so I went to check on him and this is what I found:

He had gotten into the Vaseline and was eating it by the handfuls! After staring at him for half a second I snapped these terrible blurry pictures like any true blogger would and began to clean him off. As I wiped down the tub of Vaseline I read the back label where it said "if swallowed seek medical attention and call poison control right away". YIKES!

To make a long story short I'll just tell you that he was fine, Helen was really nice and said its really not a big deal, there is just something in there that acts like a laxative. So we had a few messy diapers that day, a good reminder to me to watch this boy like a hawk and a good long talk about why we only play with toys and all was well! Thanks goodness!

Oh my goodness... you know you are a mom when seeing pictures like this make you a) crack up then b) freak out!

Glad to hear he is ok though. My daughter had a bad habit of trying to eat anything she could get her hands on at this age, so I know your pain.

He looks so cute in the pictures...like he's saying, "whats the big deal?"

I had to call poison control once because I gave my son Tylenol and then found out my husband had just given it to him. :) Such a yucky feeling...they were so super nice & helpful and assured me I wasn't the world worst mother. haha! :)

Glad he is Ok, and those photos are great! I like the shirt that he is wearing too....makes it look as if he was on Grandma's hands at the time!!

What a cutie!!! ;-) I'm glad he is ok. I would not have thought that vaseline would be poisonous. Good thing you looked at the label. *hugs*

Nasty! Why in the world would he think that stuff tasted good? I can understand the first bite, but the ones that followed??? :)

my friends dog actually ate an entire tub of vaseline Saturday (he's a jack russell so he's pretty small). It was terrible. A laxative effect, and a dog. gross.

Oh Katie! Remember when you said you read all the funny things that happen on my blog and wished you could write them on yours. This is the day! I laughed and felt bad at the same time!
I have also had to make the poisen control call and just to let you know those little packets of "stuff" that come in shoes are NOT poison. They are just not edible. ;)
Glad everyone is Ok!

Note to self: Do not leave my son unattended with vasaline.

Grateful to hear Graydon was fine, aside from a few icky diapers!

These pictures are too cute- besides the eating Vaseline part of course! The look on his face is just priceless! Glad all is well and I hope it is the first and last time you have to call poison control.

Glad he's okay! My dog ate a full tube of neosporin once and it did the same thing (outside, thank goodness!) to her tummy. He is too cute eating that stuff!

hehe! I just had to giggle!

Glad he's ok :)

Yea..we're familiar with poison control. Andrew got into one of the preservative packs that is in vitamin bottles. Probably similar to the one in shoes mentioned above. Not poisonous thankfully - just not supposed to be eaten, LOL. Those red cheeks will go away here in Florida :)

Oh my gosh! So glad everything worked out okay!

i laughed out loud while reading this! i thought stuff like that only happened at our house :) not that anyone here has eaten vaseline YET....but you never know!

Your recent pictures of Grayden's very rosy cheeks have reminded me of my son at that age. When he was teething his cheeks were just chapped raw. We tried everything, including vaseline and prescriptions from the doctor, but nothing worked. We finally tried Chapstick and it worked like a charm...no more chapped cheeks. You might want to give it a try. By the way, your little boy is just adorable!

Oh dear. I love that you snapped pictures. I would have done the same thing. They are so curious (and hungry) at this age.
