it happens in a blink

It's always hard to write posts like this and it seems like I do it far too often. So I'm just gonna jump right in...

Last week Monday my Aunt Laurie was diagnosed with cancer. This came as a major shock to everyone. She spent the majority of the week at the hospital doing tests and talking with doctors, they determined that the cancer was very aggressive and decided that treatment wasn't in her best interest. This news has turned my world upside down.
I had just spent some timing chatting with her and my uncle a few weeks prior and she seemed totally healthy, then in a blink every thing changes.
She is now spending her last moments here on Earth at Hospice House, surrounded by her loved ones.
I've been able to visit her a couple times now since her diagnoses and our conversations are ones I hope to remember forever. While I want to cherish every word that was spoken, and every tearful hug, what I mostly want to remember is her amazing strength and the perfect peace she exhibits. It's that 'peace that passes all understanding' (Philippians 4:7). I really don't understand it, but I know it comes from God. It's truly amazing to see and it's been a comfort to me as well.
In the past week and half I've thought a lot about how quickly your life can change.
In a blink my Aunt was given a grim prognosis.
In a blink our first born son was taken from us.
In a blink a bomb went off injuring and even killing people at the Boston Marathon earlier this week.
It happens in a blink. I'm using this as yet another reminder to live each day to the fullest and not take a single moment for granted.
Thank you for your prayers for our family during this difficult time.

"Blink" Revive

Teach me to number my days
And count every moment
Before it slips away
Take in all the colors
Before they fade to grey

I don't want to miss
Even just a second
More of this

It happens in a blink, it happens in a flash
It happens in the time it took to look back
I try to hold on tight, but there's no stopping time
What is it I've done with my life?

It happens in a blink
It happens in a blink

Keeping your family in my prayers Katie. I too received some tragic news this week where a friend of mine lost his son in a terrible snowmobile accident. Life is so precious! Hug those little boys and cherish every little moment.

Katie, I'm so sorry to hear this news. As you may know, I too have cancer and sometimes I think it's harder on my family than it is for me. I'm not religious I'm afraid but I am thinking of you and your family at this dreadful time.

Oh Katie - that is such sad news. I am glad you have been able to see her and spend time with her - that is truly a blessing. I pray for God's perfect peace to be in all your hearts today. I agree how life can change in an instant. My son was lost in a matter of moments whil he was cooking dinner in his kitchen. My ankle fractured in a moment when I slipped on snow covered grass - months later I am dealing with the effects. My 3 sisters all live in the Boston area and I prayed that they were not in that crowd of people whose lives were forever changes in that moment. These are moments in our lives that shape what is to come. I hope your aunt spends her last days pain free and surrounded by love.
