Adoption Questions?

Saturday, November 21, 2009

In honor of National Adoption day today I thought I would offer you readers a chance to ask me any questions you may have about Grayden's adoption or domestic adoption in general. I'll give you a couple days to leave your questions in the comment area (or you can always email me too) and I will do my best to answer them sometime next week!

WHat agency did you go through? Do you have a closed or open adoption? Thanks for answering the questions. My hubby and I have been considering this.

Is your adoption open or closed? Also - this may be way to personal - but I have always heard that adoption is so expensive! Is it very expensive?

I am also wondering if it was an open or closed adoption? Why did you choose to go the route you did? From the beginning to the end how much money was adopting your little boy? Will you adopt again in the future?

You don't have to get into specifics because I know money is a private matter, but my husband and I may adopt and would like to know if there are any programs out there that help pay for the process, because from some of the research I've done, it is very expensive.

How did your adoption go through so quick (start to finish)? I've heard stories of couples who go through the process only to be agonized by the wait, which some say can take years...?

What is the thing that surprised you he most about adopting? Would you do it again?

Hi ~ I just wanted to say "thank you" for choosing adoption. I am adopted, and just recently found my birth family. My birth mother gave me up for a much better life and I am truly thankful for it. Although I'm sure it was a painful decision I'm blessed by it. One thing my adoptive parents did was from the time I can remember (2-3 years old) was tell me a story about how they fell in love, married and desired a family. They did so via adoption. I have always known I've been adopted and wouldn't want it any other way. What a wonderful thing for Grayden you have done!

Blessings, Laura

Are you planning on adopting again? I'm not sure if you've been told if you are allowed to try and get pregnant on your own again. Regardless of that answer, would you adopt again?

Adoption is amazing. *hugs*

I'd love to hear whatever parts of the story you are willing to share! More specifically, what arrangements to you have with the birth mom as far as contact? How involved were you with her before he was born? Did you bring Grayden home from the hospital or did he have to go to foster care for a while?

Thanks!

Thanks for allowing us to ask some questions. I was also wondering if the adoption was open/closed. Was it a very invasive process? One of my daughter's classmates was adopted from China, and her mom said they had to fill out approx 20pages of info about themselves. Was Greydan born in Michigan or did you need to travel to another state? Did his birth mother choose you, or did the agency? My husband and I have 2 children, but we have always discussed the possibility of adopting internationally one day.

I just found your blog a few weeks ago and have just fallen in love with your family. your faith is so inspiring Katie. My husband and I have just started looking into adoption to expand our family, how did you and Robb come to the decision to adopt precious Grayden, how did you pick domestic, not needed to get indepth but what was the price range? your adoption seemed to go faster than I thought it could happen is this normal? are you planning on adopting again? any advice for me?

Did you ever consider adopting from another country besides the states?

Thanks for taking our questions! Here's a fun one: How often do you get told that Grayden looks like Robb? (Because right now, at least, he totally does! I think their resemblance is so special :))

I just realized I spelled Grayden wrong in my earlier post. Sorry about that. I'm Canadian, so I'm used to spelling the colour "grey".

Do you have a separate blog about your adoption? I remember you mentioning it, but I don't think you've ever posted the link. I LOVE reading adoption stories!!

What are your plans for telling Grayden about his adoption?
