2, 4, 6, 8 how many kids do we anticipate?

Thursday, July 29, 2010

A lot of you asked various questions about future children, adoption and pregnancy so I'm just going to sum it all up into one post.

First of all I'll start by saying that yes, we would like more children, Lord willing. How many? Well, I would love a big family but given the circumstances we'll probably stick to 2 hopefully 3 children. It's hard to say, Grayden is seriously in close competition for the best baby ever so its easy to think about having more kids if they would be as easy as him but chances are our future children will give us a little more trouble, or Grayden could easily change his demeanor as he grows so I may change my mind with time!

Now, this might be the confusing part. Physically it would be possible for me to get pregnant if we didn't use contraceptives to avoid it. Its just really dangerous (to the baby, to Paco and to me) due to the medications I currently take as well as the complications with my past pregnancy. Its like 2 strikes against me. Although chances are the reason my pregnancy with Brenham ended the way it did was due to my kidney issues there's no way of knowing for sure. So it would all just be really risky right now.

We do hope to adopt again someday, we're praying and waiting for God's perfect timing for us. I'll be sure to keep you posted! Right now we are loving this stage with Grayden as our only (Earthly) child. If we adopt again domestically we would definitely use Bethany Christian Services again to facilitate the adoption, no question. If we ever choose to look into International adoption I would start the research process over again and I really have no idea where we would end up agency wise. Honeydew1894 asked what I did to keep busy during the dreaded wait. Prayed! As you know adoption is so completely out of our hands so the only thing we could do to feel like we had any control over the matter was pray! We also used that time to really try to stay busy. We planned a weekend getaway, date nights and completely submerged ourselves in holiday activities (cuz its much harder to do all the stuff with a little one)! Your time will come and once you have your baby in your arms all that time waiting will be nothing in comparison to the time you have ahead of you with your precious child.

He makes all things beautiful in His time!

Thanks for this post. I needed to read this. DH and I (or maybe just me) are struggling with the idea of getting pregnant again someday. We are totally on board to start our adoption process, but knowing I physically can get pregnant, but not knowing whether or not I can carry a baby is so frustrating. Do we or don't we? We're leaning towards not trying again and possibly adopting all our children. It's nice to know I'm not alone in these thoughts.

Thanks!
Kerry

It's great you are so honest, I'm sure it is VERY helpful for others who are in the adoption process to hear your confidence and faith about it! We've thought about adopting someday too, but it seems like it can be a very overwhelming process! We'll stick with one kiddo for the time being:-)

Thanks for this post. You are so strong and positive. My little Bryson is only 9 months so future children aren't in the plan yet, however I think about it everyday. Since I developed preeclampsia very early with Bryson the risk of me having another preemie is high (he was only 28 weeks), therefore we may just decide not to push the envelope and be glad God graced us with Bryson in our lives. You are uplifting. Thank you.

Katie, I have just read your entire story blog and I have cried through your tribulations and smiled at the blessings God has provided for you.

I am one of the 10% who have unexplained infertility in the U.S. I won't bore you with my story, but after years of being angry at God, I finally returned to my roots, hit my knees and have received blessings that out weigh my hurt.

My husband and I have a total of 5 children: I have 2 handsome, wonderful step-sons that I love as my own, and we have adopted 3 (2 girls and 1 boy). We felt so blessed to have been given these gifts, as of today, they are all ages 28, 27, 26, 21, & 20 yrs.

Summer of last year while watching the news, the Wednesday Child report came on and my husband and I both felt the urge to add to our family again. We know it was the hand of God gently guiding us along as we honestly were enjoying our empty nest! We began the process again of homestudy, etc. and opened our heart to looking for ANY child. We are now awaiting our new daughter's visit to our home for a week next Monday. We have been matched, accepted, and are so thrilled to have been given the gift of a beautiful, 16 yr old girl who wanted a family to share her life. WE, however, are the ones that are being blessed.

Adoption is the most precious gift our Lord allows us to receive ~ God Bless You and your family!

We've been waiting for three years to adopt an older child through BCS (not infant). I seriously wonder if God does not call everyone to be parents. You'd think we would have placement by now, all those kids out there needing a home and that. I enjoy your blog, though. I am so happy for you and your family and pray that He guides in the days ahead!

Grayden is beautiful in that picture! You are obviously amazing parents. I'm so glad the adoption process was successful for you - it makes me think of adopting one day myself.
