Keeping Christ in CHRISTmas

I love to pack this time of year full of festive fun.

Last week Friday we took the boys downtown Zeeland to see live reindeer. Grayden thought it was so cool, but Sadler was a little scared!

They also had Marc Photography there taking Santa pictures, I die every time I look at ours! Poor Sadler!

Saturday we ventured out to Muskegon with the boys to see the Holiday Road light show. The past couple years we’ve done this we usually drive through the neighborhood with our car radio dialed in on a certain station and watch the light show choreographed to the music. This year they moved the show inside.

While these things are super fun and I love making memories like these with my family, we want to be careful that the boys understand that Christmas is not about reindeer or Santa or Christmas lights. We try hard to make certain they know that Jesus in the reason for the season.

So today we did something really cool, in fact I think the boys enjoyed it even more than the lights and reindeer and so did I!

We went to the Critter Barn in Zeeland to see the live nativity show they put on with my parents and the Roelofs clan.

We’ve gone before with Grayden’s birth mom when he was little.

He soaked it all in this year!

We started by checking out the farm animals

And then it was on with the show, they did a spectacular job on making you feel like you were right there on that very first Christmas.

On the way home Gray said his favorite part was seeing Baby Jesus!

It’s so easy for us (myself included) to get caught up in the gifts, and the food, the parties, and the festive decor, but let’s step back and remind ourselves the reason we celebrate Christmas in the first place, our Savior’s birth!

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

Great reminder for us all at this time. Looks like a lot of fun! I'm curious if you still see the boys birth parents? (If you choose to not answer this question I completely understand).
