Thank you all for your sweet comments, again your prayers mean so much to us. We had a major scare yesterday morning, and I've been put on bed rest for a few days, for sure until the 9th when I have my next appointment. Thankfully, the baby still looks to be safe and sound, just taking precautions so it stays that way.
Hope every one's having a wonderful and safe Independence Day. Ours was nothing like we planned it to be, but that's ok, I'll do anything to keep this baby safe.
Finding out:
I woke up early Saturday morning, April 27, the same morning I'd soon find out my Aunt passed away. I laid in bed debating whether or not to take a pregnancy test. After several months of disappointment I just wasn't sure I wanted to take one. But in the end decided to, that evening would be the boy's birthday party so that would be a good distraction from the bummer news if indeed it did turn out I wasn't pregnant.
I took the test and set it on the counter. I watched as the test processed and waited for the second line to appear, but nothing showed up. Bummed but not surprised, I started to walk back to bed when my phone rang, it was my mom. As I answered the call I glanced at the test again as it had now been the 3 minutes it took for the test to process, and what did I see?
A second line! In that same second my mom told me my suspicions were true, why else would she call so early on a Saturday morning? My Aunt passed away earlier that morning. Talk about an emotional roller coaster. I couldn't believe my eyes or my ears.
I told Robb the news about my Aunt, and meanwhile my head was spinning, trying to think of how I was going to spill the news of the pregnancy after hearing that. I was pacing around and Robb just kept asking me to come back in bed, but I couldn't stop and relax, so I told him I was going to grab some water, I did, came back and then Sadler woke up so I took him downstairs with me and grabbed Gray's old 'big brother' shirt and put it over top of his pajamas. We went back to the bedroom and I told Robb that Sadler wanted to show him his new shirt.
He was as shocked as I was!
Definitely not the way I had dreamed in my head this whole thing would go, but I think its really special that God chose that day for us to be given new life, the same day he chose to take Aunt Laurie's life, and the same day as the boys' birthday party. He gives and takes away, blessed be the name to the LORD!!!! Thank you, Lord, for this gift.
My OB care:
I'm being followed very closely by an entire team of doctors, 2 nephrologist keeping an eye on my kidney, one in Grand Rapids, one at Mayo Clinic, and a high risk ob/gyn in Grand Rapids and a local ob/gyn in Holland keeping an eye on the baby. I have an ob appointment every 2 weeks, with an ultrasound each time... our little peanut has already had 5 photo shoots! So far, with the exception of the bleeding I had yesterday, things are going great. The baby is growing really well and I've been feeling GREAT! I didn't get sick once (Praise God, such a nice surprise!) and my energy came back a few weeks ago!
Boy or Girl:
We're hoping to find out in the delivery room. Although that will be hard considering I have ultrasounds so frequently. We didn't find out with Brenham either but I only had one ultrasound, one shot to find out then that was it. I'm afraid I'll cave at one of the many opportunities to find out.
I know every one's probably guessing I really want a girl, and I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't love to have a daughter ...BUT I also really want a boy! Boys are all we know, and I think it would be neat to have a boy and see a glimpse of what Brenham would have possibly been like. We know God can plan our family WAY better than we can, and we're trusting Him to give us exactly what's best for our family.
Baby's Due Date:
I'm due January 4th, 2014. That puts me at 14 weeks tomorrow. Although, I have a gut feeling we'll be meeting this sweet babe a little closer to Christmas! I'm already so excited to meet this baby, but praying for a full term baby.

I have followed your blog for a very long time. Your announcement was some of the best news I have heard lately. I am So excited, as excited as a total stranger can be, for you and your family.
This is all so exciting!! I pray that things go so well for you!!!
How exciting for you! If it makes you feel better, I had a "bleed" in my uterus last spring when I was pregnant with my daughter. It healed up on it's own and everything turned out fine. I pray the same thing for you! Congratulations!
Take it easy! So excited for you! And it'll be 2014...since January 2013 has passed!
Such exciting news!!! I'll be keeping you in my prayers :)
Katie-I am sorry that you had a scare. I had bleeding with my son at 16 weeks and I know how terrifying that can be! Everything turned out fine with my son. Just know that you have a lot of prayers heading your way!
CONGRATS and many prayers coming your way in the next few months. I have followed your blog since summer 2010. (Your blog was given to me shortly after the loss of my twins at 22 weeks (gestation)). Your blog was such a blessing during such a dark time.
I know the stress of high risk pregnancy since I too am high risk. I pray that your weekly appointments give you the continued reassurance that you need. And that in December YOUR perfect lil miracle will be placed in your arms.
I am so excited for you! I am glad everything turned out okay. I was on bedrest with both of my boys for preterm labor, and with my second, I had major bleeding at 13 weeks from a subchorionic hemorrhage. That was terrifying, but after a few days rest it stopped and Brody is a very healthy and happy 16 month-old, now. I will continue praying for this sweet baby and you guys!
OOOOO! I'm late to the party but I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited for you! What a beautiful testimony the Lord is writing through your family story!
Katie,
I have known so many people (myself included) who have had bleeding during their pregnancies (including one with kidney issues) who all went on to have healthy babies. I hope that this brings you some comfort. Did they find a reason for the bleeding?
In any case, thinking of you!
Happy for you and praying all goes well. I had a little bit of bleeding at about 13 weeks when I was pregnant and everything was okay. Praying the same for you
How excited. I have been following for awhile and have enjoyed following your story. I too have always been a high risk pregnancy...enjoy the extra care and photos you get!! Praying for a healthy pregnancy, and blessed delivery!!
I know this is no comfort because it never was to me but just so you know, I bled with each of my pregnancies and bleed more and longer with each one...so scary for sure. At least you are at the 14th week mark, which puts you past the 12 week risk AND I am sure as you near and pass the point in your pregnancy when Brenham was born you will feel a little more comfort as well AND you have amazing care surrounding you. Praying for you and your peanut :)
Been following your blog since the beginning...not much of a commenter though :) but wanted to say Congratulations!! Praying for an easy pregnancy, healthy baby AND healthy kidney! Go Paco!
New to your blog, and also a fellow West Michigander :). CONGRATULATIONS!!! We lost our first at 18 weeks due to preterm labor 2.5 years ago, had a miscarriage at 7.5 weeks and just welcomed our rainbow baby this past May. It was a high risk pregnancy due to complete placenta previa, but Kaylin is here and healthy. We held strong through our many ultrasounds and didn't find out the sex of the baby. So fun! Many prayers for the remainder of your pregnancy!
