Joyful Strength

Thursday, December 19, 2013

I had good intentions of keeping this blog up to date once Jovie arrived but there just isn't enough time in the day! I'll catch up eventually, but for now I've been enjoying all the sleepy snuggles I can get, napping when I can, making sure the boys are taken care of, and trying to recover from a rough delivery.
In the meantime I wanted to do a 'quick' post about Jovie's name, because its super special to us.

We first came across her name while watching bon jovi perform on the today show or some other news/entertainment program. Although we can't say we're huge fans, or that she's named "after" the band, I did mention to Robb that I thought the name "jovi(e) was pretty. He loved it right away, but it took me a little time to truly commit to it. Then, I looked up the meaning of Jovie on a baby name website and learned that the name meant "joyful." Perfection. I think it's obvious when I say that this baby, from the moment we knew of her existence, has brought us so much joy. And we know she always will, she'll always be our little joyous miracle.

As for her middle name, we've always chosen names of some significance to us. Brenham Jay (Robb's and both our dad's middle names), Grayden Robert (Robb's given name, and his birth mom's late father's name) Sadler Graham (after Grayden and Brenham
We chose Breann after Brenham, Jovie's big brother in Heaven, and my Aunt Laurie, whose middle name is Ann. Many of you may remember that my Aunt Laurie passed away from a very short bout of cancer the same day we found out we were pregnant with Jovie this Spring. Both of whom will always hold a special place in my heart for their bravery and strength. Breann means "strength." I'll never forget in the last days of my aunt's life, the strength she carried for her loved ones. The first time I talked with her after her diagnoses her physical body was already failing and weak, but she didn't shed a tear, she was so strong when the rest of us couldn't hold back the sobs. She was so brave. I'll never forget her telling me that I made her strong, that since her diagnoses she would often think of me, and the trials we went through but stayed faithful to God.  There's not another name that would better suit this little baby. The baby the Lord gave us when He took away my Aunt. Blessed be the name of the Lord. (Job 1:21) Jovie is already a strong little girl. Surviving a high risk pregnancy with lots of bumps in the road, and giving us lots of scares...she's here, healthy and STRONG!

I know one other Jovie and she has a pretty amazing story too. So I think it's only fitting that this Jovie has quite the story too. I love that you put so much thought and meaning into your children's names. She is beautiful! Enjoy every moment with your new family of 5!

Congrats! She looks like her daddy in the pic and I totally thought of Jovie from the movie "Elf" like some of the others. I know of 3 other Jovies, all quite a bit older (in elementary school). She's adorable!

Karie, I have followed your blog and pregnancy a very long time. I too just had a miracle hi risk pregnancy and delivered twins (plus three adoptions- not sure if you remember me). I have prayed for you weekly and nothing made my happier than to see you get to 37 weeks (I only made it to 34+1). She is just precious and what a blessing this Christmas will be!!!!!
